A human rights lawyer, community leaders and the families of lost ones have declared war on corruption: Vale, a Brazilian mining giant, was responsible for two of the greatest mining disasters in Brazil, when a tailings damn burst in Mariana in 2015 and later in Brumadinho in 2019. Many believe these were avoidable disasters that happened due to Vale’s impunity and criminal negligence towards those killed, failing to implement needed changes after Mariana in 2015, nor addressing reparation towards the affected communities displaced and the environmental destruction caused. This is a story following the fight for justice of the families affected and their search for justice, in a case mired with government and institutional corruption, in Brazil and across the world.
